Pyrobubbles is a patented fire-fighting product that is rated for putting out even the worst of non-gaseous fires.
Pyrobubbles are applied much like sand – by pouring over a fire until it is smothered. Unlike sand, Pyrobubbles are highly porous, and the air inside them acts like a heat sink, carrying heat energy out of the fire system, while the layer closest to the fire burns onto the material, sealing it off from air. With this, Pyrobubbles can extinguish aluminum, steel, titanium, and even magnesium fires, which almost nothing else can fight.
On top of that, cleanup is easy: only the layer that burned onto the material requires disposal. Whatever is still white can be collected with a vacuum cleaner and reused, thus limiting running costs.
Pyrobubbles are silica-based and thus insoluble and free of dangerous compounds, meaning they will not absorb dangerous chemicals from fires nor dissolve in water – thus, limiting their environmental impact and making cleanup easy. Much like sand, Pyrobubles do not have a shelf life and do not need protection from humidity. Unlike sand, Pyrobubbles will not get into moving parts with tight tolerances.
Pyrobubbles do not require special handling beyond gloves and a breathing mask, to prevent inhalation of silica dust.
Pyrobubbles can be used to protect cable trays from runaway fires. If burning material falls upon the cable tray, Pyrobubbles can act as a barrier, preventing the fire from reaching the cables and traveling upon them – thus protecting both the cables, and the more valuable equipment on the ends of the cables.
